About David Kramer-Fried

David Kramer-Fried is an outdoor adventurer and college student. He is studying public health with an interest in epidemiology, a branch of study that examines the causes and distribution of public health concerns from a scientific and medical viewpoint. He grew up in the Boston area, where he has fond memories of neighborhood youth playing and hanging out outside all year round. It was an idyllic time, quite different from today, where video game consoles and social media sites tend to keep young people isolated and indoors.

David believes that this unstructured activity time was critical to his maturing because it opened a social world early in life where good decisions would need to be made, peer-to-peer. As an outdoor adventurer, he strongly supports the return to traditional family values that seem to disappear with each new generation. His family still takes annual vacations, like traveling to Palo Alto, California, where he visits his cousins, or trips to Maine, enjoying the coastal summer experience.

These experiences opened a world that can never be duplicated in a virtual world or with artificial intelligence. David’s love of outdoor adventure, passion for travel, and eagerness to develop his hobbies for outdoor adventures, automobile tech, and the science and art of brewing craft beer add richness and fulfillment to his life.

Reclaiming His Jewish Heritage

Kramer-Fried attended Boston public schools for two years before transferring to a Jewish private school, where he thrived and embraced his family’s Jewish heritage. He made friendships with like-minded individuals and participated in traditional Jewish customs around the holidays.

Today, David is an active supporter of causes that fight antisemitism in America and promotes the education of all Americans about the commonalities and differences between Jewish Americans and other groups. He firmly believes that America’s melting pot of diversity and its struggles with inclusivity begins with developing a better understanding of other people and cultures.

By learning more about his family’s religious and ethnic background, David was able to reclaim his Jewish heritage. He now feels connected to others who share similar traditions and beliefs. Today, Kramer-Fried is proud to uphold traditional Jewish values, including self-reflection and personal growth.

An Outdoor Adventurer

It was in middle school when David Kramer-Fried discovered backpacking and rock climbing. His love for outdoor adventure is increased by his enjoyment of unique landscapes, where only in America can you travel from a rocky coastline with waves crashing upon the shore through the flat, sweeping plains of the Midwest to the mountainous and desert-laden lands of the Western United States.

David became so proficient in rock climbing that he participated in youth climbing competitions, both indoors and outdoors. He enjoys the challenges of rock climbing, both the mental agility and the physical exertion required to succeed. When he transferred to a high school in a beautiful part of the Northeast, he made a new network of friends with similar passions for outdoor adventure, which led to Kramer-Fried co-founding a rock climbing club within the community.

David also has fond memories of a three-month backpacking trip in southern Utah. The landscape was breathtakingly primitive and very challenging. He cherishes these outdoor adventures, which bring him much enjoyment and a higher connection to Earth. It was through this experience that he also learned about perseverance and mental fortitude.

A Passionate Hobbyist

David Kramer-Fried strongly believes that a well-rounded life is a life well-lived! He enjoys a number of hobbies that add so much to his and his family’s quality of life. He and his entire family love to travel to different parts of North America, where they have formed new friendships that will last a lifetime. One such trip was back to Central America to visit his birthplace, Guatemala. At two months old, he was adopted from this country, renowned for its rich heritage and unmatched beauty.

The profound experience gave him a new appreciation for his Latin American roots. As an expert rock climber, David has taken many hiking, backpacking, and camping trips. He desires to share his love for the outdoors, and he has done this by working as a camp counselor during summer vacation. His family is restoring a cabin they acquired in Maine to continue their weekends and summer vacations, enjoying the great outdoors.

David is also passionate about automobile technology and style, from the 1960 classics to today’s supercharged sports cars. He can clearly see the advancement in engineering and technology with each new model that rolls off the assembly line. For David, cars are not only technological wonders but also provide an avenue for travel freedom and personal expression. He spends hours devouring detailed videos of advanced car repairs and classic car renovations.

David Kramer-Fried is constantly exploring new hobbies. He is currently growing his interest in cooking culturally authentic culinary dishes. But his real passion has been the art and craft of brewing beer. He sees craft breweries as a balance between creativity and science. He is fascinated by all the details of creating a one-of-a-kind craft beer, including ingredient selection and temperature control.

David continues to pursue his higher education goals, which are to help society deal with the ever-growing problem of infectious disease. He hopes all young people will strive to live a life built on fully expressing their potential at school, work, and play.
